Within Coominglah State Forest lies Queensland's largest patch of semi-evergreen vine thicket with crows ash and bottle tree alliance. It also has areas of open eucalypt forest featuring spotted gum, ironbark and Gympie messmate, with grassy understorey. While officially called Scientific Area 33, locally it is fondly known as Hurdle Gully.
